What are your neighbours saving?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of ING Direct for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

The power of the internet these days and the information that it can give to us against what information was available to the general public even just a decade ago is amazing. These days you can uncover loads of statistics and figures about your neighbours, information that a few years ago you would never have stood a chance of finding out.

Take the new ING Direct savings widget (see below). With it you can try out for yourself the My Comparison Table widget and see how much, on average, other households in your area have in their  Savings Accounts! And not just your own area, you can explore the whole of the UK are saving and finding out whether you are above or below average with your savings level.

What can you do with this information? Well, I suppose it is there to incentivise you into increasing your savings and putting more money away for the future. Never really a bad thing! It might also tell you a lot about the different areas that are reported on if you are thinking of moving.

Just one of the many new information sources we now have access to. Have a look and le me know what you think.

Detecting IOS And Android Devices

There are many reasons why you might want to detect the presence of a visitor who is using an Android device or an IOS device, such as the iPhone, iPod Touch or an iPad. But, how is it possible?

It is quite simple. Just add the following bit of code to the top of your PHP pages and you can decide what to do depending on their device:

if(strstr($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'],’iPhone’) || strstr($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'],’iPod’))
{
// process as IOS device
}
else if(stripos(strtolower($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']), ‘android’) !== false) {
// process as Android
}

But, why might you want to do this? Well you might have developed an app for both iPhone (etc) and Android and want to use a QR code for distribution. However, you need to codes – one to link to the Marketplace download page and the other to link to the iTunes download page. But, with this code you get the QR to link to a page on your website, decide which page the visitor needs and redirect to the relevant page. You can then also count how often the code is used, track how often users of other devices arrive and so on.

Simple.

Why Get A Contract?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

With the big fuss of the launch last week of the iPhone 4S, it is very tempting to think that rushing into an expensive monthly contract is a good idea. But Android have also released their new operating system and although it might not beat iPhone in every respect, it’s a good system and my phone of choice.

And I am not alone. Around 48% of the smart phone market is Android, whereas about 18% of the market is iPhone. Why?

Well Android phones have a good amount of features. They have their own Marketplace, from which you can access thousands of apps. Some of these are not as high quality as the iPhone apps, because there isn’t the review process, but there are any apps available on Android that would never get onto IOS for that reason.

On top of this some Android handsets are far cheaper. Yes, you can get The power of Android handsets for a fraction of the cost of their competitors. And because they are cheaper, they are very affordable on Pay As You Go deals.

You can buy a new Android handset and compare the features against the competition, then look at how much you have saved. And when you see that the initial outlay and the monthly cost is so much less, you will Feel Richer with Android than certain other handsets I could mention.

So, if you are looking for a new phone, don’t rush to a monthly contract, see what is available with an Android.

B2B Telemarketing

In hard times such as those that we are experiencing at the moment it is tempting, even essential, to make cut backs. However, there are various areas in which the budgets should not be cut and maybe should even be increased.

One such area is marketing and a useful tool here is B2B Telemarketing. With such techniques, professionals are employed to call potential target businesses, explain the reasons for buying your services and hopefully make some valuable sales for you. These services might be partially or even fully paid for through commissions.

But B2B Telemarketing does not just need to be cold calls. Surveys to test interest in a product or just general raising of product awareness can also be good uses of B2B Telemarketing services.

Emaren Holistic Therapies, Southport

I haven’t updated these pages for a while with the new sites, so with quite a few just around the corner, time to get back on with the job!

Emaren Holistic Therapies came to us as a referral from another customer, who has had a site live with us for some months now. Helping to promote a new and growing holistic treatment business, it is simply to act as a point of call on the internet so that potential customers can learn more about what is available.

A key request was for plenty of purple to match the material used in the treatment rooms, with cream as a second colour. And that’s what she got!
